Sledge Stitch Washcloth

Before you get started…

Written in US terms. This is a beginner pattern with knowledge of basic crochet stitches needed

Gauge:

Gauge doesn't really matter! You just want it to be a square. Yarn and hook size is a suggestion

Difficulty:

Beginner

Materials:

Medium/Worsted Weight (4) 100% Cotton (I like lily's sugar and cream)

Crochet Hook: Size 4.5 mm

Stitch Marker if needed

Darning Needle

Abbreviations:

sc: single chain

ch: chain

hdc: half double crochet

dc: double crochet

sl st: slip stitch

st: stitch

Stitch Notes:

  • I can’t stress enough, if you are a beginner, keep track of your stitch count!

  • If you are a beginner, use a stitch marker for the firsts and last stitch made so you don’t lose your count!

  • Since this is a free pattern, I did not have testers, any questions please see end of pattern for options!

Instructions

Chain 30 (video tutorial)

Row 1: Starting in the 3rd ch from the hook, hdc & dc (first two chains count as first sc so place stitch marker at top of ch 2), *skip two chains then (sc, hdc, dc) all in the 3rd st* repeat * to * 7 more times. You should be left with 3 ch, skip 2 ch, and then sc in the last chain, turn (10 sc [including ch 2], 9 hdc, 9 dc: 28 total sts [including ch 2]

Row 2: Ch 1 (counts as first sc, place stitch marker in there if needed), hdc & dc in the 1st st. *skip 2 sts, (sc, hdc, dc) in the 3rd st* repeat * to * 7x. skip last two sts, sc in previous row Ch 1 space, turn

Row 3-23: Repeat steps from row 2

Optional: Sc border: sc 25 on each side, with 3sc in one st on each corner

Finish with invisible seamless join & weave in ends. You’re all done, now crack open a cold beverage!
